Autoresponders

Autoresponder software is key to a good internet marketing business. One can deliver information products, send automated replies, send newsletters and connect with one's customers in many different ways. The company that everyone recommends for email marketing software, email newsletters and autoresponders is Aweber Communications. I recently subscribed and am very pleased with their level of service and support.

My latest read....

My latest read is Changing the Channel: 12 Easy Ways To Make Millions For Your Business, by Michael Masterson and MaryEllen Tribby. Good read packed with practical tips to multichannel your marketing to success. This book is a good complement to the 4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris that I read earlier.

Timothy Ferriss' Four Hour Work Week

After spending considerable time educating myself on the topic of Internet Marketing, the book I needed to read was recommended to me by another internet marketer.
Forget 95% of the gurus 'sell you a product' type books...they tend to be mostly hype and it is difficult to determine which are 'real' and which ones are just another money grab.

This one is truly different and I mean that. The philosophy is profound and gives a person step by step strategies to implement successful life changing techniques to start and maintain your business....and to continue it on autopilot. Check it out. For very few dollars you can be well on your way to being an internet marketer.

Those that fail to plan...plan to fail.

One needs a good business plan to do well at internet marketing. It is important to make a detailed outline of the steps that should be taken, in the order in which they should be taken and the expected cost is the most successful way to get from point A (zero traffic to a website) to point B (lot of traffic).
This works with every aspect of ones life....have a good plan and good things will happen.

Another thing I've learned is to have targeted traffic. You want traffic to actually be looking for products like yours to buy.
In order to get targeted traffic one needs to:
  • post advertisements for your product where potential customers can find the ads
  • writing articles about how your product will benefit the customer (make lives better, solve problems, make them feel better, look better, have more fun, provide information)
  • find blogs and forums where your best prosopects are gathered and are discussing a subject that is related to whatever you are selling
  • Make it really easy for these potential customers to find you (sprinkle your website links all over the internet
  • capture the names and addresses of the customers and potential cusomters so you can entice them to make return visits and do so very often
  • use the list that you have built to your best advantage.
There is a lot to know and a lot to learn. One of the first steps after making a plan is get an autoresponder and set up opt-in boxes. Without an autoresponder there is no way to capture the names and email addresses of your website visitors.

One all in system, including the autoresponder is InternetOneSystem.

Check it out. It can save a person a lot of money. Rather than buying many different internet components for big $$$ one can get it all in one place.

Those are just a few of the steps I've learned along my Journey to Successful Internet Marketing.

So remember...Those that fail to plan , plan to fail.

Those that plan....the world is your oyster!

A Lead Capture Page?

I'm on to a new step....making dynamic and interesting lead capture pages!

What the heck is a lead capture page, you might ask???

One of the most important steps on one's journey to successful internet marketing is to have a great landing page (or splash page)! This is the first page a visitor will see when they find their way to your site.

The purpose is to capture the potential customer's attention and convince them to give you their name and email address. This builds the list that you can use to establish a relationship with your customer and to use for future promotions.

People won't leave their contact information without an incentive such as a free ebook or report which the reader might use or enjoy. It is a win-win situation. Provide the customer with a free ebook...or two.... that is beneficial to them and in return you create a targeted list of emails. Note the ebook or report ought to be related to the item you might eventually sell to the customer.

According to one net guru it is important to do split testing (ie. have TWO lead capture pages) to see which one is most effective at generating traffic and produces results (gets people to leave their email address). Keep the good lead capture page and throw out the one that doesn't work...and create another one...and keep split testing. Eventually you will have a dynamic capture page.

Of course the most important step is to have a GREAT product to sell to all the leads!

Tips To Generate Traffic to Your Website

As I've been learning about Internet Marketing I've been compiling tips to get traffic to my websites. I was also looking for aids that were free which is doubly important especially since I have a very limited budget. Here is what I've learned so far.

1. Blogging - one of the reasons I'm here. (Also this is a good place to keep track of things. My desk isn't :)) People LOVE blogs. I've found very useful information on blogs. The other great thing is the fact that blogs are dynamic. They change frequently and the search engines love 'em! It also helps to post on other people's blogs, especially BIG NAME blogs. It is suggested you don't put your product in your post but definitely mention your webpage in your sig file.

2. Writing articles - check out similar sites to your interests and find the ones that appeal to you. If they interest you, they may interest others. Article marketing is an effective way to make sure your articles get read and generate traffic.

3. Forum posting - find forums on your niche or interests and hang out. Read the posts and find areas where you can provide information. Subtly include your webpage link or advertising blurb in your sig file.

4. Another tip I've discovered is viral marketing. Actually this one of the major tips everyone mentions. Writing and distributing FREE ebooks and reports that come with resell rights (so they are passed on and on) is very useful. Especially if you have backlinks to your own products and websites. Your info (and those backlinks) will be passed around and around the net.

5. Writing Ezines or newsletters and getting people to opt-in in exchange for your product thus creating a 'list' of interested people. Your publication needs to have quality content to create continued interest.

6. A win-win scenario is to swap links with other site owners. Choose people at your own skill level (gurus aren't going to be interested in swapping links with newbies).

7. As you build more sites, tell your readers about all your OTHER sites.

8. Have your sig file (with your website) on >every< FreeTrafficBar and Garland Coulson's Internet One System. It is going to take awhile!

The Big Names in Internet Marketing

It is interesting. The more I research the more I see the same names coming up in the internet marketing world. Names like Mike Filsaime, Stephen Pierce, Derek Gehl, Mike Stewart, Armand Morin. It seems no matter whether big or small, most internet marketers target select niche audiences. I'm the niche some of these big guys are targeting.

I was specifically looking for internet marketing tutorials for the beginner internet marketer. There is a lot of information out there but one that resonated with me was a fellow who has a lot of training videos on his webpage. That is Garland Coulson. I like his style. He explains things clearly and has a slide presentation one can follow along with. It appears he captured these videos during live webinars that he does as he was also answering people's questions. I'll have to check out his forum to see when the next live version is. If you are interested check him out. I believe you may have to log in (it's free) to see the tutorials. He is also the guy that has the FreeTrafficBar (also with lots of tutorials on it.)

The Internet Marketing Business From the Ground Up!

I've always wanted my own business. I didn't know what it would be but I knew this business would be on the internet.

Why? Because the internet has always fascinated me. I've been on the net since 1994. I have made friends on the net, wasted time in the chatters way back when and go into withdrawal if my email is down. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? I knew there had to be a business out there for me.

But What Kind of Business? That was the million dollar question.

This summer I decided it was time to get serious about finding a business to market. A google search revealed a zillion hits for internet marketing.

Where to start?

After downloading a dozen 'free' reports and getting on as many 'lists', I decided a good how-to book for beginners might be the answer. That led me to one book in particular:

"Street Smart Internet Marketing" by Justin Michie.

I'm not quite sure why this book caught my eye out of the dozens (hundreds, maybe thousands out there) but it did. I think because the lead-in pages weren't in my face flashing....and the author let his customers download three free chapters for free!

Those free chapters turned out to be good stuff. I was intrigued so I ordered the book.

That was my start.

A month later a chance meeting with an ezine journalist friend of mine led me to my next major finding and that was FreeTrafficBar.

What a great resource! It will take me months to explore FreeTrafficBar further. One good feature is the keyword search. When I get my ebook sales going this will be a tremendous help. Also every web page I surf to is giving me points towards advertising.

It's been an adventure and more to come.

P.S. you can find "Street Smart Internet Marketing" on Amazon or go direct to www.justinmichie.com.
